etsy holiday gift guide

ooooo, i just love giving gifts. watching some one's face light up after opening a gift i have given them makes me happy.

this holiday season i have decided to support the artists, designers, crafters, and makers that represent the lovely world that is etsy. my budget is $50 per person. that may not sound like a lot, but i'm not one to buy fancy, expensive gadgets or gifts for the sole purpose of impressing someone. that's lame and impersonal. and a bit, well, tacky. i prefer to give something unexpected that they wouldn't think to buy for themselves, but would love to have. since i can't divulge my gift-giving list, here are some nifty ideas for those near and dear to you this holiday season. and they're all under $50. what. up.

1. knitter in the family? how about a spool or two of this gorgeous hand-spun, hand-dyed yarn from fiber story? the color is called tufts in koi pond. rad. this thick/thin yarn turns an ordinary pattern into a unique one. $20

2. someone you know expecting? forgo the usual gifts and give them this adorable giraffe print from creative thursday to spruce up the nursery! giraffe's are my favorite animal. kinda want this for our future child. $35

3. know someone who lives in a city and must walk to and from the market schlepping their groceries? i do. moi. it sucks, yes, but canvas bags make it much more bearable, not to mention environmentally friendly. check out the craft pantry for kitschy bags like this one. $20

4. older sister a fashionista? no problem. this wool cloche by liza rietz is sure to please. $42.

5. know someone who loves all things retro and whose alarm clock recently broke? hmm. how about this little number from individjuli? $10

and what about wrapping these lovelies? skip the fancy bows and expensive wrapping paper. get yourself a roll of kraft paper from your local stationary shop, some baker's twine, and kraft gift tags that you can personalize. dare to be different!
